Reclaiming Style as a Ritual

“Professional appearance.”

Two words that have silently policed generations of workers, dreamers, and creatives into conforming to a vision of acceptability that often erases more than it empowers. Behind the crisp lines of dress codes and vague expectations lies a deeper question:

What happens when the way we dress becomes less about self-expression, and more about self-erasure?

It’s time to reclaim our right to be seen as we are, and as we’re becoming.

Style is Not “Fashion”

Fashion is what’s marketed to the masses. Style is what YOU make sacred.

Style is a ritual—an everyday practice of self-knowing. Whether you're reaching for a thrifted jacket that reminds you of someone you love, or layering textures that feel like a poem only you understand, getting dressed can be an act of intention. Of healing. Of remembering yourself.

The world wants to rush us into trends and demands we edit ourselves down to what's "acceptable," and so, dressing with self-awareness is a radical act.

The Quiet Power of Enclothed Cognition

There’s a psychological concept called enclothed cognition—it suggests that what we wear doesn’t just change how others perceive us; it changes how we perceive ourselves.

Think about it: when you wear something that makes you feel strong, playful, grounded, or seen—your posture shifts, your energy shifts, your confidence shifts. That’s not shallow. That’s symbolic. Clothing can carry memory, intention, even protection.

And yet, we’re taught to dismiss these instincts. We're taught to dress down who we are.

But what if instead you choose to let your closet become a place of play, experimentation or transformation?

Thrifting as Rebellion

Thrifting can be a ritual of rediscovery. It’s a way to choose meaning over mass production, to step outside the algorithm and into serendipity. Every piece you find is a story waiting to be continued. When you shop vintage, you’re not just buying clothes—you’re choosing lineage, texture, character, and care. In an economy obsessed with the new, thrifting is a small, rebellious act of preservation, identity and soul.
